Getting started

The theme works with any Docusaurus 3 site that uses the classic preset (@docusaurus/preset-classic). It needs Node.js 20 or newer.

1. Create a site, if you don't have one

Skip this step if you're adding the theme to an existing site.

npx create-docusaurus@latest my-docs classic
cd my-docs

2. Install the theme

npm install @arabesquelabs/docusaurus-theme-arabesque

3. Add it to your config

List the theme under themes, and use its code colours.

docusaurus.config.js
import {lightCodeTheme, darkCodeTheme} from '@arabesquelabs/docusaurus-theme-arabesque/prism';

export default {
// ...
presets: [['classic', {/* docs, blog, theme.customCss */}]],

themes: ['@arabesquelabs/docusaurus-theme-arabesque'],

themeConfig: {
prism: {
theme: lightCodeTheme,
darkTheme: darkCodeTheme,
},
},
};

4. Clear out the starter colours

The classic template's src/css/custom.css sets Infima's primary colour to green. The theme overrides it, but remove those lines so the file holds only your own additions.

src/css/custom.css
/* Site-specific styles. Use the design system's tokens: var(--al-color-accent), var(--al-space-4). */

5. Add the logo and favicon

Copy the SVGs from the theme's assets/logos folder into your site's static/img folder.

cp node_modules/@arabesquelabs/docusaurus-theme-arabesque/assets/logos/*.svg static/img/

Then set them in your config. Configuration has the details. A product's docs use the product's own logo instead.

6. Start the site

npm start
tip

If the site still shows the old styles, stop the server and run npm run clear, then npm start again. Docusaurus caches theme components between runs.

Work on the theme itself

The theme and this site live together in one repository, as an npm workspace.

npm ci
npm start # this site, at http://localhost:3000, using the theme in packages/
npm run build # production build in website/build
